Released in 2006, Supersunnyspeedgraphic is a Ben Folds compilation that largely consists of EPs (including Sunny 16 and Speed Graphic) issued by the alt piano man's own Attacked By Plastic label. Although the disc lacks the cohesiveness of many of Folds's other albums, it does feature entertaining rarities, most notably his reggae-tinged take on the Darkness's Get Your Hands Off My Woman, his buoyant version of the Cure's In Between Days, and the dreamy Still, from the soundtrack to the animated film OVER THE HEDGE. While not the best introduction to Folds's amiable, pop-savvy aesthetic, SUPERSUNNY is a fine example of his artistic range, which goes so far as to include a tongue-in-cheek Dr. Dre cover.

Usher proved that he had a strong, soulful voice with his self-titled debut, but he fulfilled his potential on his second record, My Way. What makes Usher distinctive from his urban loverman peers is the fact that he doesn't oversing; he simply delivers his songs soulfully. Unfortunately, he falls prey to uneven material, just like any of his peers, but there are more strong songs on My Way than many contemporary R&B albums from the late '80s. Both Jermaine Dupri and Babyface contribute seamless productions and fine songs; respectively, You Make Me Wanna... and Bedtime are their best ballad contributions. Even if the ballads are usually seductive and romantic, cuts like the funky Just Like Me, which features a cameo from Lil' Kim, might make you wish Usher didn't play it cool all of the time, and it would have been nice if the tenth track was something other than a remix of You Make Me Wanna... Nevertheless, it's a strong second effort that showcases Usher at his best.

Beatmaker extraordinaire Timbaland is a primary collaborator, and his experimental stutter-funk landscapes make for the album's best moments (the title track, for example, or the spare, driving lead-off single Sexyback ). Early Prince is a major touchstone for much of the disc, but Timberlake also draws on rolling, Dirty South jams ( Chop Me Up ) and smooth, urban-contemporary loverman R&B ( My Love ). Its obsession with the bedroom notwithstanding, Futuresex/Lovesounds shows Timberlake moving toward an exciting musical maturity.
